La société qui emploie plus de 5000 personnes, fait vivre directement ou indirectement près de 3 millions d’individus. Il faut absolument la mettre à l’abri des conséquences de cette pandémie.

Elle fait partie des cinq plus grands employeurs du Cameroun. A l’échelle nationale, la Sodecoton pèse 2,5 % au Produit Intérieur brut (Pib) et 5% du PIB agricole. La filière cotonnière nationale représente 4% de toutes les exportations du Cameroun et 15% de celles des produits agricoles avec un impact fiscal oscillant entre 30 et 40 milliards francs CFA par an. L’avènement de la pandémie du coronavirus qui fait des vagues actuellement ne devrait donc pas occulter cet aspect. Bien au contraire, la survenue brusque de cette maladie qui menace la survie de l’espèce humaine devrait interpeller au premier plan les chefs d’entreprises. Ce qui a été fait à la Société de développement du coton du Cameroun bien avant la décision du chef du gouvernement sur haute instruction du chef de l’Etat, demandant le respect et l’application de certaines règles pour stopper la propagation de ce virus qui a déjà tué des milliers de personnes à travers le monde. La note instruisant la mise en application des directives du gouvernement montre que le souci majeur du Top management de la Sodecoton, reste et demeure celui de la préservation des acquis de développement économique et humain de cette entreprise citoyenne.

En effet, la filière cotonnière nationale fait intervenir beaucoup d’acteurs qui vivent directement ou  indirectement du Coton et de ses produits dérivés. C’est ainsi qu’on retrouve dans la liste : commerçants, fournisseurs, transporteurs, transitaires, assureurs, banquiers traders et bien d’autres opérateurs. Les experts estiment ces personnes à plus de 3 millions. Les populations des 10 régions du Cameroun en général et celles du Grand-Nord en particulier ont un lien vital avec cette société citoyenne. La lutte contre le coronavirus au Cameroun se fera avec la Sodecoton. Les initiatives prises par le Directeur Général MOHAMADOU BAYERO, visant à protéger le personnel et les usagers, sont louables et interpellent chaque maillon de l’entreprise ainsi que les usagers. En effet, dans chaque service de cette société se trouve un dispositif de lavage et de désinfection des mains. Par ailleurs, la  Société s’est engagée à fournitures au personnel et aux usagers de nouvelles informations utiles données par le gouvernement en rapport avec l’évolution cette pandémie. Le grand-Nord qui n’est pas encore atteint officiellement, ne doit pas attendre la dernière heure pour se protéger.
