Elles ont été emportées à en croire les autorités municipales par un violent vent qui a secoué le département de la Bénoué dans la nuit du 6 mai 2021.

La consternation, accompagnée des larmes a atteint son paroxysme dans la localité de Lagdo et des arrondissements environnants : Bibémi, Dembo, Pitoa, Rey-Bouba. Et pour cause, la mort de 7 personnes emportées la veille par le vent dans les eaux du lac de Lagdo. A en croire un adjoint au Maire de la Commune de Lagdo joint au Téléphone, les naufragés 11 au total, sont partis la veille à 17 heures dans une pirogue à moteur dans la zone portuaire de Lagdo communément appelée Djippordé, pour retourner à Bengui, leur village natal. A bord de cette pirogue de fortune, 11 personnes en plus des bagages. En chemin, elles seront emportées par un violent vent qui a secoué le département de la Bénoué dans la soirée du 6 mai.

Informée, l’armée Marine basée à Lagdo, va se rendre immédiatement sur le lieu du drame. 7 corps des 11 passagers à bord ont déjà été retrouvés. La Marine poursuit intensément les recherches pour retrouver les 4 passagers encore introuvables. Il faut toutefois rappeler que ces 11 personnes venaient se ravitailler en produits de première nécessité dans la ville balnéaire de Lagdo. Ville où a été construit un barrage hydroélectrique inauguré en 1984 et qui alimente une bonne partie des trois régions septentrionales du Cameroun. Cette retenue d’eau construite par la Chine a formé un lac qui s’étend sur une distance de plus 50 kilomètres partant de Lagdo jusqu’à Rey-Bouba. De nombreuses personnes vivent le long de cette mare d’eau et, ont pour la plupart pour seule activité, la pêche. A défaut de se rendre à Rey-Bouba où il n’y a pas grand-chose, beaucoup viennent se ravitailler à Lagdo. Et chaque années à cause des vents violents en saison des pluies, de nombreux cas d’accidents sont en enregistrés. Ce fut le cas en 2012, 2015, 2018 et 2019.
Nous y reviendront sur cette triste actualité.
